Computers as machines that can be used to perform a vast number of tasks, are digital technologies, and a result of science and technology experiment that has transformed and still transforming how lots of activities are carried out in everyday life such as at homes, schools, transportation industry, financial institutions, Health care centres, Religion centres, Industries, and Government offices.
Technology is considered as the collection of techniques, skills, methods, and processes of scientific knowledge to solve problems, and it is very essential in our daily lives. Globally, technology affects economy, creates employment, improves education, social lives, and businesses, immensely develops nations, and connects the world.
Science is known as the intellectual and practical activity encompassing the systematic study of the structure and behaviour of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment. Science is also referred to as the ability to produce solutions in environment with identified or unidentified problems.
Science and Technology are immensely essential, and they need each other. Science without technology is like a reproductive system without sperm, or a market place without people. Some of the most gratifying aspects of technology are when it is used to increase knowledge, leverage to achieve greater results and improve the quality of lives. We can only advance technologically when we understand its essence, use it, and learn to invent.
In simplicity, technology is the usable result gotten from applying scientific knowledge used for practical purposes, especially in solving problems. Present time digital technologies are made functional with the help of computer used to design and program them.
Uses of Digital Technology
With the vast rate of technological advancement across the globe, almost everything is done today with the use of computer and other digital technologies. We use digital technologies to communicate, read books, do shopping, make payment, have digital currency like Bitcoin, secretly record activities without people knowing with the use of built in camera sunshade or glasses, virtual reality system – including entertainment (gaming) and military training using virtual reality headset, computer-based test (CBT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine – a medical imaging technique used in radiology to form pictures of the anatomy and physiological processes of the body, drones for entertainment and military use amidst other uses. All these are usable results of applying scientific knowledge combine with technical methods for providing solutions to problems.

The use of computer and other digital technologies is getting endless with the current development, transformation, and revolution of AI (Artificial Intelligence). Children and adults across the globe have access to computer, but the level of access varies between continents and countries. In Africa, the use and development of computer and other digital technologies is very low and needs rise of more developers with support of governments, corporations, and individuals to increase the pace at which Africa tech industry is growing.
While there's need to support the growing progress of Africa's tech industry, developers and innovators should also make development sustainable by being conscious of possible adverse factors, most especially affordability and effects of climate change. Presently, AI is presenting uncertainty to the future of work, raising concern and worries for many people. As AI presents uncertainty to future of work with its continuous development and revolution, it's a good advise that homes in Africa should have at least a computer for children to get accustomed to its use, which would help them prepare for the future of work, and help those who have potential to contribute to the growing progress of Africa tech industry.
